The app stops loading the grid and shows one message instead: the account has been banned. No access to old chats, no detailed explanation — just a note that the community guidelines were broken.
What Grindr actually says about bans
Grindr's own Community Guidelines describe a graduated response: warnings and content removal for smaller issues, a temporary suspension next, and a permanent ban reserved for severe or repeated violations. Moderation mixes automated systems with human review, and according to Grindr the team works around the clock, 365 days a year, across six countries — the same rules apply whether the profile is free or paying.
Account ban or device ban: they are not the same thing
On its Colorado Safety Policy Information page, Grindr confirms that for more serious or repeated violations it may apply "account bans or even device bans, depending on the nature of the violation." An account ban only affects that one profile. A device ban is tied to the phone's identifier — a new account created on the same device gets blocked too.
How the appeal actually works
Only appeals submitted through the official ban appeal form are accepted, not a direct email. It is reviewed by a team member who was not involved in the original decision. Grindr also does not guarantee sharing the full reason for the ban — protecting the identity of whoever reported the account matters more than giving a detailed explanation to the person banned.
Don't forget the subscription
A ban does not automatically cancel an active paid subscription (Xtra or Unlimited): it keeps renewing through the App Store or Google Play even without account access. It's worth cancelling it directly in the phone's subscription settings as soon as the ban happens.
Somewhere to keep talking in the meantime
While an appeal is pending, there are ways to keep chatting that don't rely on a single account tied to one device — like gChat's rooms, where you join with a name picked on the spot. For more on how other users approach this, see Gay chat Ireland: meeting men online beyond the big apps.
