How “near me” works here
ChatGay.online does not use GPS, does not show distances and has no map. Instead, every country has its own public room. When you join the room for your country you are talking to people who share your language, your time zone and, very often, your city life.
The country names the room; it is not a verified location of the people inside. If you want to find someone from your own city, say so: a short line such as “anyone from the north coast tonight?” is enough to see who answers.
Why not showing your position is a feature
Apps that list people by distance have to know where you are, and that information can reach other users. In some cases it is possible to work out someone's position from the distances an app shows. A chat room avoids the problem entirely: there is no position to share, so none can leak.
It also means you decide how much to tell. A region or a city, if you want. Never a street, a building or a workplace.

- Open the room for your country. See the full list on the all countries page. If yours is not there, the worldwide room is always open.
- Introduce yourself in one line. A nickname that is not your real name, your general area and what you are looking for.
- Read the room for a minute. Notice who is active and what tone people use before you jump in.
- Move to a private chat when you click with someone. Photos and video calls are available in private conversations.
Meeting someone from the chat in real life
- Have a video call first. It is the quickest way to check that the person matches the conversation.
- Choose a busy public place for the first meeting and tell a friend where you are going.
- Do not share your address, building or workplace before you really know the person.
- Be wary of anyone who asks for money, codes or links, or who insists on leaving the chat straight away.
